How do you keep
my info safe?

How we keep you safe if you call:

If you decide to call your tip in, your call is encrypted and routed to a Crime Stoppers Call Center in Texas.  There is no caller ID and with encryption the number can not be traced.

When the call taker is documenting your tip, they will not document any statements that indicate who or where you are.

The information is stored in the P3 program owned by Crime Stoppers.  It is reviewed one more time to have all personal information removed before it is sent to an officer or investigator to follow up on your tip.

How we keep you safe if you submit a tip online:

When filling out the tip form on the P3 website or following a tip link on a case posted on LincolnCrimeStoppers.com your information is protected.  No IP address information is captured and the information is encrypted when submitted.

How we keep you safe if you use the P3 app:

The biggest benefit to the P3 app is the convenience and texting ability.  With texting, the question of security is often brought up.  When filling out the tip form on the app, texting or looking up your previous cases, your information is protected.  No IP address information is captured and the information is encrypted.   This includes when you have a text conversation with Crime Stoppers or Law Enforcement within the app.

How we protect you from the officer knowing your identity:

Your tip is reviewed one more time and anything else that may reveal your identity is removed.

The tip is then sent to local law enforcement to investigate.

A designated person at each agency reviews your tip and then assigns the tip to the officer investgating the original case, or assigns an officer if your tip is regarding something that has not been reported yet.

If an officer has questions about your tip, the only way they can ask is through the app's text feature. (see above.)

How we keep you out of reports:

Since the investigating officer does not have access to your info, they can not list you in reports or report information about you that may reveal your information.

How we protect you in court:

Normally, Police reports will list information on people and they could be called to testify.   However, since your identity was never revealed, they can not call you and the officer can not be forced to identify you in court because they never had your information.

Government agencies are required to release information when asked under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA.)     Since your tip is owned by Crime Stoppers and supplied to law enforcement, your info is not open to a FOIA request.  Crime Stoppers is a civilian run, non-profit board and not a tax funded government agency.

How we keep you safe collecting a reward:

In all 3 ways of submitting a tip, you will be given a Tip ID number.  If your case is cleared and a reward is approved, you can contact Crime Stoppers.  It will be updated in the app, if you use this option.

A password will be given to you, to go with your tip ID number.

You will then be given a secure bank location and go through the drive-thru.

Simply submit your tip number and password to the bank to get paid.
